Our premium brass hardware may naturally tarnish as the oils of your dogs skin plus environmental factors do their work. We've carefully chosen brass due to its hardwearing properties and ability to be restored to its former glory. If wanted, you can polish with a damp (warm soapy water) cloth, then dry with a second soft cloth.

Vegetable tanning is an age-old process that uses natural tannins found in tree bark, leaves, and other plant matter to turn raw hides into beautiful, durable leather. It takes time — often weeks — to achieve the rich tones and character that vegetable tanning is known for. But we know that the patience pays off in quality, longevity, and peace of mind. Learn more about why Vegetable Tanning is not only non toxic and great for the planet, but why it creates leather that is prized for its durability and longevity - here.
All leather, using premium vegetable tanning techniques, can feel stiff at the beginning.
The long, slow traditional techniques used for vegetable-tanned leather results in leather goods that will soften with use and develop a beautiful patina as they age.
As opposed to leather products using common chrome tanning - which cracks and splits in time - Our Ohana Pups Collars made from vegetable tanned leather will instead become more and more soft and comfortable over time. The edges of vegetable-tanned leathers are burnished or turned, meaning this leather is created with durability in mind. This premium leather is stiff in the beginning but gets more supple with time and use.
